Investment Philosophy and Process
Philosophy
LFA believes that appropriate asset allocation across diverse investment categories is a key determinant of portfolio returns. LFA employs fundamental, long-term buy and hold strategies with periodic portfolio rebalancing, principally through the use of mutual funds. Passive investing through the use of index funds may also be recommended. Recommendations are based on publicly available reports and analyses, academic research materials, computerized asset allocation models, and various subscription services such as Morningstar for mutual fund evaluation.
LFA also understands that investment costs, such as transaction costs, commissions and advisory fees, reduce investment returns and therefore LFA evaluates all investment programs with this in mind.
LFA does not sell any type of investment product, nor does it earn any type of commission or referral fee.
LFA provides objective advice with a strong emphasis on client education.
Process
LFA does not provide an “assets under management” service and therefore does not have custody of client assets. Accordingly, clients either have an existing relationship with an investment company that manages their assets or direct their own investment portfolios. In either case our job is to analyze the historical investment performance, review the current asset allocation and portfolio holdings, and make recommendations. For clients with an investment company relationship, we offer an independent second opinion that will provide the client with valuable information to better manage the existing relationship, which we respect. For clients who manage their own assets, we can help them determine if they are earning an acceptable rate of return and can recommend changes to their portfolio as appropriate. We can also help clients set up and maintain their own accounts.
